I draw the slow things — bowls, hands, the way light folds across the corner of a room in the late afternoon. The discipline is patience. A drawing arrives the way a guest arrives: by being given a quiet seat and not too many questions.
The studio is one room, two windows facing the gulf, and a long table. The medium is almost always graphite, sometimes ink, very occasionally silverpoint when the season is right and the paper has been prepared.
Each piece is original, signed, and numbered. The works are made one at a time and are not reproduced in print. When a drawing is finished, it leaves the studio with a small certificate of authorship and a short note about the conditions of its making.
